TingTink is Janet Tingey’s knitting blog. The world really did need another knitting blog, and I simply could not resist adding mine. Plus, I’m going to start selling my knitting stuff here. Patterns, notions, whatever I can think of that might bring in a bit of money.
The name TingTink is derived from combining the first syllable of my last name with a knitting jargon word, “Tink.” You may notice that Tink is Knit spelled backwards. That’s because, in knitting parlance, one “tinks” ones work when one needs to un-knit, or knit backwards, to correct a mistake. I make lots of mistakes (one of which may have been choosing TingTink for the name of my knitting blog). What can I say? The word spoke to me. In the grand, philosophic scheme of things, I’d be nobody if I didn’t make a hell of a lot of mistakes and learn stuff along the way.
From the name “TingTink”, my dear spouse derived the tagline “A Knit Design Forge.” Can’t you just hear those little
hammers knitting needles–tink, tink, tinking away–forging new and ever more beautiful things, just like a smithy at the hearth? I know I can. I changed “Forge” to “Foundry” because an alternate meaning for “forge” is “produce a copy or imitation of (a document, signature, banknote, or work or art) for the purpose of deception” and I am not out to deceive anyone.
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
